Pink, Unpacked
Love it or hate it, the color pink has multitudinous cultural and emotional associations, and armies of fans and detractors alike. On the other hand, pink is also just a range of wavelengths of light that never asked for any of this.
This year I joined the board of Seattle Print Arts; my first act in that capacity was to cook up, in cahoots with my pal Kamla Kakaria, this show: Pink, Unpacked which dives into and explores both the color and the concept.
Pink, Unpacked runs March 11 – May 1 at the M. Rosetta Hunter Gallery with an opening reception 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14* coinciding with Capitol Hill Art Walk. The gallery is located at 1701 Broadway on the first floor of Seattle Central College. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Admission is free.
The show features the work of Seattle Print Arts members, mostly printmakers, many of whom will be showing work in media other than print, but all of it pink. I will be showing Four Pinks in Four Acts, a slew of new print-based stop-motion animations on a big(gish) screen. If you can’t make it to the show, you can watch them on the small screen here.
*What else is March 14? Why it’s PI DAY, my absolute favorite holiday! There may be pie served, and if so it will definitely be pink.
