The Grid
The Grid, on view now at Seattle Central College’s M. Rosetta Hunter Gallery, explores the intersection of geometry, technology, and craft, showcasing three artists who reinterpret the grid through distinct mediums: Valerie Calano, Sheila Klein, and yours truly.
I’ve revived an installation from 2022, Andy’s Ambition, reconfiguring it for a new space. Originally conceived for two mirror-image storefronts, I had made what were essentially two identical installations, but in opposite colorways (i.e., green-on-magenta and magenta-on-green). For the redux, I gathered the usable remains and finagled them into a corner of the gallery, treating the area where the two patterns on the floor, and the edge of the installation itself, as a sort of digital fade.
There are also a couple of my screenprints on view, and a loop of grid-based animations. The other two artists manifest their grids in weaving and plastic beads. Color and pattern abound in this exhibit, the brainchild of the gallery’s curator, Meghan Trainor, with whom I’ve had the pleasure to work in the past on some Seattle Print Arts shows.
Now through October 31. Hours: Monday – Thursday 10am-3pm and Capitol Hill Art Walk, October 10, 4pm-7pm. 1701 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98122
